We are incredibly proud to count on Irene once again, born in Tolosa (Gipuzkoa, Basque Country), not only because of her incredible results, but also because of her values and humbleness, both inside and outside the cycling world.
Irene, we are thrilled with your renewal for the next season. After your awesome achievements, we are pretty sure that this 2018 you will make it to the top!
A bronze medal in the World Championships in China put an end to your incredible season. How would you sum up this year?
I did not start as strongly as I would have liked, and my first results are proof of it. However, mid season I started training much harder and, in the end, it could not have finished any better!
You have had plenty of experiences this year, which one is your favourite?
Every World Cup is special, but without a doubt I would go for the bronze medal in the World Championships in China.
This has been your first year with us, how would you describe the experience with the ProRace team?
It is a great honour to work with the ProRace team, I had the best bike and it was a great incentive. I am really happy to be part of the team.
What would you highlight with regards to the relationship with Monty?
Its human value.
You have been training with Javi Alonso, did he make a positive impact on your progress?
Indeed he did! Javi has helped me a lot and I am highly motivated every time I train with him. We know each other since the beginning and he is a great person.
The Christmas holidays are just around the corner and it is time to rest a little, so what are your plans for 2018?
It is time to rest and I will build up my training gradually to be at my best for next season.
Leaving trial aside for a couple of questions… What does Irene do when she is not riding an M5?
Now that the season is over I have more time to spend with my friends, as I don’t see them much during the year. I also enjoy hiking with my dog, going to concerts…
One year ago you told us that you wanted to become a firefighter. Is that still within your future plans?
Hahahaha! Yes, it is still one of my goals!
Let’s go back to trial with the last question, which are your short and long-term professional goals?
I will soon start to train for the next season and I would like to get on the podium as much as I can and someday finally get to wear the rainbow jersey.
Thank you very much for your time Irene, we look forward to seeing you at the races!
Thank you for believing in me! See you soon!
