French Champion for two consecutive years and World Team Champion. Manon Basseville’s career and the talent have no limits and he keeps preparing meticulously to progress in the 2017 season world ranking!
I have a positive overall look of this season 2016, it is a season that taught me a lot about the sports side, notably about the importance of physical preparation. It was a constructive season for me.
In particular, a milestone was reached during the 2016 season, what is changing in terms of national level?
Indeed, I dominated the national circuit this year. I am the winner of the overall classification of the French Cup, and I ended up, for the second year in a row, on the first place of the podium of the French Championship.
If you had to tell us about an important time during this season?
I think I will tell about the World Team Champion. It is an extremely stressful competition, because you can win but also lose a complete team. The end of this competition is therefore a relief, and the victory has an indescribable flavor, especially when the team is bonded.
2016, it is the 1st season of the M5 “Os”, you made all your season with it, how would you summarize the bike?
A jewel! Leger, nervous … It is a real pleasure to ride on this bike, pleasure shared with my father because he couldn’t find the slightest mechanical worry, although he tried.
Most athletes are superstitious. Do you have crazes, rituals when entering a competition?
I’m pretty superstitious in general. So I have a pair of lucky socks, but also a lucky kiss from my mom before each race, who is never very far during competitions.
An anecdote in particular, a “secret file” you can tell us?
Haha, as I said in the previous question I have a pair of lucky socks. After many deceptions during competition in Albertville I decided not to wear those socks, and this competition went well for me…
Let’s plan for the coming season, what are your goals? Do some competitions attract more attention than others?
My main goal is to progress time and again, while taking pleasure in getting on my bike. The competitions that attract me the most are the French Championships and the World Championships. I will prepare for the best for those.
Did your physical and mental preparation evolve in relation to other seasons
It has evolved a lot! As I said in the first questions, this season I understood the importance of physical preparation and “next to” the bike. So I will not neglect them this year!
Monty is currently focusing its attention on a new range of tubular trial frame called “Kaizen”; as well as a 26 ” competition-oriented prototype. What is the opinion of your environment about the comeback of Monty in the Trial?
My environment thinks that it is a very good thing that a brand of the scale of Monty is interested in the trial, innovates, and widens its range. Especially as these bikes are really beautiful!
Let’s talk a little more about Manon Basseville outside the Trial. Can you introduce the person in a few lines?
I am currently in the first year at the Montpellier Sports University, in order to become an EPS teacher. I like sports in general, cooking, watch series, etc.
Do you have a particular athlete from whom you find inspiration in difficult times?
Not particularly, but living next to Myriam Nicole (downhill mountain bike driver), and since I did my first rounds behind her, it is a driver who has always been a model for me.
For the last question, a complicated one, if you had to find a slogan to sell us Manon Basseville in a sentence, what would you choose?
Hum, very complicated indeed! “Determined, I smile at life while I follow my goals..”.
